Harris Meets with Macron to Renew U.S.-France Relationship

Vice President Kamala Harris met with Emmanuel Macron, the French president, after President Biden conceded to Mr. Macron that the handling of a submarine deal involving the United States, Australia and Britain had been “clumsy.”

Reporter: “Vice President Harris, do you need to make amends?” “I’m very happy to be in Paris.” “I have to say that we had a very fruitful meeting in Roma [Rome] a few days ago with President Biden.” “I look forward to a conversation about our shared interest in prosperity for our nations, and understanding how that can impact our friends around the world. And what we must do in regards to assisting those who are in need. So we have many topics for discussion, but I will — I will say that building on the great conversation that you and President Biden had, I look forward to the next few days, where we will continue to work together and renew — and renew the focus that we’ve always had on our partnership and the benefit to the people of France and the people of the United States and the people of the world. Thank you.”
